2025-04-22Be slow because they're running (executing) for a long time. In other words, these queries are actively using CPU resources.A query can be running for some time and waiting for some time in its lifetime (duration). However, your focus is to determine which is the dominant category that contributes to its long elapsed time. Therefore, the first task is to establish in which category the queries fall. It's simple: if a query isn't running, it's waiting. Ideally, a query spends most of its elapsed time in a running state and very little time waiting for resources. Also, in the best-case scenario, a query runs within or below a predetermined baseline. Compare the elapsed time and CPU time of the query to determine the issue type.Type 1: CPU-bound (runner)If the CPU time is close, equal to, or higher than the elapsed time, you can treat it as a CPU-bound query. For example, if the elapsed time is 3000 milliseconds (ms) and the CPU time is 2900 ms, that means most of the elapsed time is spent on the CPU. Then we can say it's a CPU-bound query.Examples of running (CPU-bound) queries:Elapsed Time (ms)CPU Time (ms)Reads (logical)320030003000001080100020Logical reads - reading data/index pages in cache - are most frequently the drivers of CPU utilization in SQL Server. There could be scenarios where CPU use comes from other sources: a while loop (in T-SQL or other code like XProcs or SQL CRL objects). The second example in the table illustrates such a scenario, where the majority of the CPU is not from reads.NoteIf the CPU time is greater than the duration, this indicates a parallel query is executed; multiple threads are using the CPU at the same time. For more information, see Parallel queries - runner or waiter.Type 2: Waiting on a bottleneck (waiter)A

Foreign key column hintScript Runner allows now to execute archived scripts directly from .zip files. The tool unpacks zip archives to temporary files by itself for further executing. Drag-n-drop from Windows Explorer has been added to SQL Editor and SQL Script Editor. Now to open a file in one of the editors, just drag it at Windows Explorer and drop at the editor area. The performance of SQL Script Editor has been significantly increased especially on large script editing. In addition to this the name of the file loaded to the editor area is now displayed at the right bottom corner of the window.Script Runner has been slightly changed in appearance and performance. Now the name of the database the script to be run on is displayed at the top of the window, the name of the script file may be quoted, and the script files in the UTF-8 encoding may optionally start with a byte order mark.Data Grid features: Now it is possible to display images directly in the grid. To enable/disable this view mode or change the image fitting, use the Manage inline images item of the column popup menu.Picture 8. Data Grid: inline imagesData Input Form has been significantly improved. Now it simplifies the input of data with lookup menus for columns linked with foreign keys and ENUM columns, a calculator for DECIMAL columns, and check box groups for SET ones. The form can be invoked now with Ctrl+Alt+D shortcut.Picture 9. Data Input FormMulti-column lookup editors become available. Such editors modify values of several columns in the record simultaneously in order to guarantee referential integrity.Picture 10. Multi-column lookup editorNow the headers of primary and foreign key columns are marked with the 'gold key' and 'silver key' images accordingly as well as the headers of required columns are marked with a red asterisk. The existence of any column marked with a gold key in the dataset means that you can modify/delete the records of this dataset without risk of updating/deleting several records at a time. Picture 11. Key columns in the data gridTable Editor features: Another way of index creating has been implemented. Now you can create a new index directly from the Fields tab of the table editor. To add an index, select column(s) the new index
2025-04-05Formula information. But again this has to be generated one report at at time.3) Report Runner Documentor by Known Keep (Free with any other licensed product)This is a simple tool that comes for free with any other licensed product. You can import individual reports or entire folders which translates the primary report properties into a SQL Server database. You can then run the standard reports or you can connect Crystal Reports to the database to create your own reports (about your reports). The standard reports include a report overview and several cross-reference reports showing which reports use which tables, fields and formulas. These standard reports can be exported to most of the export formats supported by CR.Report Runner Documentor requires registration but is otherwise free. The registration Email must come from a business Email address. The initial download will actually work for 3 days and beyond that the free registration is required.4) R-Tag Documentation & Search by R-Tag($749 for 1 user + $99 for each additional user)R-Tag Documentation and Search allows you to search, compare and generate documentation for your reports. You can scan one or multiple reports. The scan will include all report properties including tables, fields, formulas, conditions, formatting options, database, printer and custom properties. Scanned reports can then be searched, documented and compared based on the scanned properties of each report. After scanning you can:1) Search for a specific text string (table or field name), for a specific object name (*logo*) or a specific property value (printer, paper size).2) Compare any two reports to find differences in any report property. Objects will be marked as changed, added or removed, with the changed values displayed. When formulas are found to have changed the changes are highlighted with additions and deletions in different colors.3) Generate documentation for a single report or a folder of reports. The default layout displays the SQL query, parameters, tables, tables fields, formulas , SQL Expressions, connection information. This can be customized based on your requirements. Documentation can be exported as a PDF with a bookmark for each report and each page showing the selected properties.R-tag Version Control ($1499)R-Tag Version Control does everything mentioned above in R-Tag Documentation and Search, but adds a comprehensive source code control system for RPT files. The version control is provided by the R-Tag application, without the need for an external product (like VSS). To modify reports you check them out which locks that report until it is checked back in as a new version. Prior versions of a report are saved so that changes in each version can be identified and rolled back if necessary. R-Tag Version Control not only tracks the changes but can store related documentation for these changes
2025-03-28MaxDB Maestro 8.7 released Jul 9, 2008 SQL Maestro Group is happy to announce the release of MaxDB Maestro 8.7, a powerful Windows GUI solution for MaxDB Server administration and database development. Please consider the list of new features implemented in this version since the last official release: Server management extensions: None in this version.Interface improvements: A French localization is now included into the installation package. The SQL Generator tool has been implemented. Use this feature to produce various SQL scripts (CREATE, DROP, SELECT, INSERT, etc.) for the selected object. The result script can be saved to a file, copied to clipboard, and opened in SQL Editor or SQL Script Editor. Data grid has been significantly updated: Starting with this version it is possible to use the lookup editor for a column, which is linked by a foreign key with a (single) column from another table. The editor displays the contents of parent table’s columns within the dropdown window. A possibility of displaying data in the master-detail form has been incorporated into the Table Editor (multiple detail pages can be displayed for a single master row). Use the Show/Hide details link at the editor’s navigation bar to activate/deactivate this view mode. The Generate Query command has been added to the Table/View/Synonym editors. Use this command to copy current filter conditions to the SQL Editor window as an SQL query. It is also possible to copy filter condition to clipboard as WHERE clause using grid’s popup menu. Now it is possible to encrypt the contents of the selected cell by the md5 algorithm (the corresponding item has been added to grid's popup menu). A possibility to restrict maximum column width has been implemented. This version of our software is fully compatible with large fonts (120 DPI). Database Explorer: the Data management group has been added to table and view nodes popup menus. Use this group items to run Data Export, Data Import, and Get SQL Dump wizards for the selected table or view without openning its editor. The Empty Table command has been moved to this group too. SQL Editor: a popup menu has been added to each query tab. Using this menu you can create a new query, close existing one, save the query to profile, etc even if editor's navigation bar is closed. SQL Script Editor: Script Explorer has been significantly improved. Now it works much faster and more exactly. SQL Script Editor settings: the "Use script runner for large scripts" option has been added. Create Database Wizard, Create Profiles Wizard, and object creation wizards become resizable. Data import wizard: the interface for adding and editing of replacements has been slightly improved. Database Designer settings: the "Show hints" options has
