I'm planning on reteaching myself from elementary arithmetic to calculus. I'm requesting a sequence of books to get me there. Looking for something rigorous, that actually explains why algorithms work, etc. Something that won't bore me when it comes to the basics. Should I learn set theory to start off with, or just go with the more traditional approach?Also, apologies for not posting in the learning materials forum, PF won't let me for some reason. Jul 17, 2011 #2 I would recommend getting a calculus book. The one calculus book that I use for calculus covers Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and multivariable calculus all in one book. Most calculus books have a couple chapters in the back of the book, or the very first couple, that review basic arithmetic for those who haven't studied math in a while. If you learned the material already at one point in your life, you will most likely be bored with books that attempt to teach these topics as if they are presented to you for the very first time.
