Anki flashcard app is both an app and a wider concept. The fundamental flashcard Anki algorithm was originally created over 30 years ago and has been built on as well as implemented in many 3rd party app versions - and to be more confusing there are two popular versions available on the internet today - AnkiApp and AnkiWeb. In this article we will try to provide our take on the app and help you decide which Anki is the best app for you for creating and studying flashcards. We will also suggest that there are other apps you might also want to check out.AnkiAppThe answer to 'Is Anki the best?' or 'Which Anki is the best' depends on what you need. If you are looking for an app to make your own flashcards and memorize a lot of information and you want to use advanced spaced repetition, then both the main Anki apps might be the right flashcard app for you. However, most flashcard apps today offer some form of spaced repetition, and the Anki interfaces in both apps are pretty basic so you may want to look carefully and select an app that suits your real needs. Can also be used for middle schoolers to an extent. But can this tool be an effective one for high schoolers? A kid can get to know what a hat is by looking at the picture of the hat on the flashcard. But, how would flashcards teach complex scientific concepts? This would certainly not be possible. Therefore, it is easy to inculcate a younger student through flashcards, but these can be used in a limited way for older students who are in college or high school. Is using flashcards a repetition strategy?Flashcards help kids learn because they make kids memorize by drilling information into them. These indeed use the repetition strategy because it repeatedly displays the same information to a learner. Using repetition means learners will only read and say what they see on the card. Flashcards are based on the spaced repetition concept.Repetition for making one perfect in a skill is an old practice. These study techniques have been known to help kids recall information. Undiversified displays of flashcards can help better memory retention in students of all ages. ConclusionFor years, flashcards have been designed so that they help learners in both the retention of information and active recalling. Using them creates stronger neural connections in the child’s brain. We may conclude that, despite their drawbacks, they are a convenient and valuable resource for teaching various concepts, and they also make the learning process easier.Improving language skills, boosting the ability to produce stories, memorizing, and evaluating an issue, and expanding vocabulary are the advantages. Aside from the cognitive benefits and boosting an individual’s memory span, flashcards can also boost self-esteem, improve communication, and boost creativity. All-encompassing, they can be great tools to learn and retain study-related concepts! Moreover, there are numerous platforms where you can build your cards. Some apps called Quizlet or StudyBlue can be very suitable for accessing flashcards anywhere in the world. References:Reinventing Flashcards to Increase Student Learning. (2017, July). Welcome to another week of Dear Duolingo, an advice column just for learners. Catch up on past installments here.Hi learners! I'm Elizabeth, and I'm taking over Dear Duolingo again this week—I previously shared tips for studying grammar. This week's question is more general and covers grammar and vocabulary, and it's one I think about a lot as I work on Duolingo's practice lessons! Our question this week:Oh, One and Done, I think that's a really common sentiment—I've definitely felt it before, too! Learning is all about building connections between what we already know and new information, which involves paying attention to that information and getting it into short-term and long-term memory. Keeping it in long-term memory is where spaced repetition comes in.We probably all know what regular repetition is, and spaced repetition is a special kind of repeating that takes advantage of how our brain builds connections (and how those connections get weaker). 💡Spaced repetition is a way of reviewing information in a spaced out way to help you remember it better. What is spaced repetition and how does it work?Spaced repetition is inspired by the forgetting curve, which the psychologist Ebbinghaus came up with. He tested his memory on made-up syllables, and noticed that as more time passed, he forgot more and more of the syllables. This is pretty intuitive, like when you can remember a new phone number for a few minutes but forget it the next day.Research shows spaced repetition is beneficial for many kinds of content: new vocabulary words, grammar, math concepts, and motor skills, to name a few. So spaced repetition can help you no matter what you're learning!Spaced repetition improves your long term memory. It's easy to forget information if you haven't used it in a while, but periodically reviewing it helps you make it stick. The interesting thing is that it doesn't just matter how many times you review it—it also matters when you review it.For example, say you need to study for a Spanish test. Drilling each word 20 times the night before might get you through the test, but those words will likely fade fast afterwards! (Not that I'd know this from personal experience, of course… 😅) Instead, give spaced repetition a try, and practice each word 4 times a day for 5 days. You'll still practice each word 20 times, but spacing it out over several days makes it more likely they'll stick around longer. As you get to know the words better over time, they'll stay in memory longer after each review, so you can include more and more space between your practice sessions. To get the biggest benefit, you should aim to practice things right before you're about to forget them—that really helps fortify the connections between ideas in your brain.Because spaced repetition means learning information over time, it doesn't necessarily result in better immediate learning! At first it might even feel like there's no difference. But stick with it, and you'll remember things better in the long term.Spaced. The free version of Quizlet doesn’t use spaced repetition so it doesn’t have the same long-term focus, however, for $20 a year, you can get Quizlet plus which does.
