Qualcomm Augmented Reality SDK 1.0.0 - Download
#1 TechCrunch noted that Qualcomm had recently released their Augmented Reality SDK for iOS. The SDK had originally been available for Android but Qualcomm had promised its release in July for iOS. The SDK should make it easier for developers to integrate virtual content with real content such as images captured by cameras found on many portable devices. Augmented reality applications are nothing new for iOS, with Apple having introduced support for the technology in iPhone OS 3.1 nearly two years ago and a number of applications such as Layar Reality Browser and Word Lens having embraced it, but Qualcomm's tools will make for easier cross-platform adoption that could increase developer interest.Qualcomm had held an Augmented Reality Application Developer Challenge last year to promote the use of their SDK. The video above shows the winners from that contest. The first version of the iOS SDK is said to support iPhone 4, iPad 2, and 4th Generation iPod Touch.Article Link: Qualcomm Releases Augmented Reality SDK for iOS #2 Wow! That's pretty impressive. Can't wait to see how this technology progresses over the next 5 years. #3 Wow, the 1st place winners looked pretty crazy #4 Totally cool, how awesome would getting app store games like those be #5 I think those kinds of apps would be awesome on an iPad too! #6 It's pretty clear that augmented reality is the future of advertising and interactive games and puzzles on the go. I can't wait to point my phone at a picture or a scenery and have it come to life. #7 Cool ideaThats some pretty awesome technology, however I can't see people carrying those mats around (if those are needed to play the game) and doing this in the car or a movie theater waiting for the movie to start. However, this does have potential #8 It's cool, but why do we need the mat? I mean, couldn't these apps conceivably be done only using the SDK now provided, using only the phone as hardware? What does the map provide to the game that can't be done without it? #9 It looks cool. But the video is so artsy, I really can not figure out what the hell is going on. #10 It's cool, but why do we need the mat? Qualcomm has just announced their new Vuforia SDK 2.0 for Android and iOS to enable developers to create augmented reality applications for those platforms.Key new features include:Cloud Recognition Service – Up to now developers were limited to about 100 images on the target device due to limited storage space, but thanks to the Cloud recognition service, apps can “see” more than 1 million images, creating new mobile augmented reality (AR) opportunities for retailers and publishers. For example, every product (or image) in a store can bring associated content from the retailer’s website and render it directly on top of the product (or image). Watch American Apparel AR app video demo for an example of such app. The Cloud Recognition service requires a Vuforia Web Services account which is free for developers (Limited to 1,000 images, 3000 events per months), but is subject to fees for businesses.User-Defined Targets – Augmented reality apps usually require a known target image to be recognized before rendering the virtual content. Vuforia SDK 2.0 allows users to select their own targets such as books, magazines and photos, and do not need to carry the target previously required for the game.Support for Play Mode for Unity – Improves development time by allowing you to test and debug in real time. No more sideload-run-debug-repeat between your PC and your test device. This is made possible thanks to webcam APIs that can activate your PC’s camera or USB webcam from inside the Unity Editor and let it see the real-world image you’re building on. That way you don’t need to constantly the target device for debugging and testing your app.You can watch a short demo of those 3 features in the promo video below.Another noticeable improvement is support for the front camera on mobile devices.Qualcomm has also launched a new Vuforia Developer Portal, with improved navigation and additional resources such as sample apps, more documentation and tutorials. Vuforia SDK 2.0 can be freely downloaded for Windows, Linux and MacOS.Jean-Luc started CNX Software in 2010 as a part-time endeavor, before quitting his job as a software engineering manager, and starting to write daily news, and reviews full time later in 2011. 2025-04-23In this article, we will have a look at what AR SDKs and Frameworks are, types of AR apps, and what are the top 12 AR SDKs and Frameworks to develop mobile apps/games.Augmented Reality or AR (in short) is a thriving technology that bridges the gap between the reel and the real world. It makes our fairytale fantasies or science fiction fantasies real.According to the Statista portal, the global market for AR (Augmented Reality) is expected to attain $18 billion by 2024. There are various SDKs and Frameworks that can be used for AR development, however, choosing the right and the most advantageous one is the issue. We have curated a list of the Top 12 AR SDKs and Frameworks that you can consider for your development project. But first, let’s get a clear idea of what AR SDKs and Frameworks are. What is AR SDK?Types of Augmented Reality Apps that existTop 12 AR SDKs & Tools in 2025Wrapping UpWhat is AR SDK?An Augmented Reality SDK is a core technological software that provides the developers with the necessary tools to develop Augmented Reality apps and games. They perform the important task of fusing real-world information with digital content. The advantages, features, and capabilities of the Augmented reality SDK / Framework used will determine the features and functionality that your app/game can incorporate. Therefore, choosing the right AR SDK / Framework is vital for your app/game’s performance.AR technology is an emerging one, however, we have just scratched the surface of what AR is capable of. Till now, we have used AR to its minimum capacity and its usage in the apps/games is limited. Let’s have a look at how the existing apps are using AR.Types of Augmented Reality Apps that exist1. Marker Based ApplicationsIn Marker Based Applications, the camera will use a kind of visual marker to recognize the objects at which you point the camera. It will show you the information of the object in a 3D version or it can be used to measure the size or distance of the object.2. Location-Based ApplicationsThese kinds of AR apps function without markers and the position of the user is detected by an accelerometer that is GPS or a digital compass. This overlays the real objects in the real physical environment. The most popular location-based augmented reality app is undoubtedly Pokemon Go.In this app, a notification is sent to the user depending on their current location to get them the new real AR content in their surroundings.Top 12 AR SDKs & Tools in 20251. VuforiaVuforia has extensive options of the latest features and is adopted by most AR users. It is very useful for apps that need to effortlessly combine real images and virtual ones.
