Use Cloud Shell in an Azure virtual network Article10/23/2024 In this article -->By default, Azure Cloud Shell sessions run in a container in a Microsoft network that's separatefrom your resources. Commands that run inside the container can't access resources in a privatevirtual network. For example, you can't use Secure Shell (SSH) to connect from Cloud Shell to avirtual machine that has only a private IP address, or use kubectl to connect to a Kubernetescluster with locked-down access. To provide access to your private resources, you can deploy Cloud Shell into an Azure virtualnetwork that you control. This technique is called virtual network isolation.Benefits of virtual network isolation with Cloud ShellDeploying Cloud Shell in a private virtual network offers these benefits:The resources that you want to manage don't need to have public IP addresses. You can use command-line tools, SSH, and PowerShell remoting from the Cloud Shell container tomanage your resources. The storage account that Cloud Shell uses doesn't have to be publicly accessible.Things to consider before deploying Azure Cloud Shell in a virtual networkStarting Cloud Shell in a virtual network is typically slower than a standard Cloud Shell session.Virtual network isolation requires you to use Azure Relay, which is a paid service. In theCloud Shell scenario, one hybrid connection is used for each administrator while they're usingCloud Shell. The connection is automatically closed when the Cloud Shell session ends.ArchitectureThe following diagram shows the resource architecture that you must build to enable this scenario.Customer client network: Client users can be located anywhere on the internet to securelyaccess and authenticate to the Azure portal and use Cloud Shell to manage resources contained inthe customer's subscription. For stricter security, you can allow users to open Cloud Shell onlyfrom the virtual network contained in your subscription.Microsoft network: Customers connect to the Azure portal on Microsoft's network toauthenticate and open Cloud Shell.Customer virtual network: This is the network that contains the subnets to support virtualnetwork isolation. Resources such as virtual machines and services are directly accessible fromCloud Shell without the need to assign a public IP address.Azure Relay: Azure Relay allows two endpoints that aren't directly reachable tocommunicate. In this case, it's used to allow the administrator's browser to communicate with thecontainer in the private network.File share: Cloud Shell requires a storage7.1 Contacts - Private Shell
Tunneling with Secure Shell Remote access to network resources is increasingly a business requirement, but external network threats must be neutralized. A Secure Shell (SSH) capability called port forwarding allows nonsecure TCP/IP data to be tunneled across public and private networks through a secure, encrypted connection. The benefits of port forwarding are illustrated by a series of concrete examples. VanDyke Software's clients and servers provide an end-to-end tunneling solution to secure client/server applications, which may serve as a lightweight alternative to a Virtual Private Network (VPN). About the Author: Lisa Phifer is vice president of Core Competence, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in network security and management technology. Phifer has been involved in data communications, internetworking, security, and network management products for over 20 years. She lectures on virtual private networking at industry conferences and has written extensively about a wide variety of network infrastructure, access, and security technologies. Tunneling with Secure Shell With today's increasingly mobile and distributed workforce, providing remote access to travelers and teleworkers is no longer a "nice to have" option. In many corporations, remote access to business applications has become mission critical. At the same time, Internet access is now cheap, fast, and readily available. Leveraging the Internet to extend the local area network (LAN), provide real-time communications, and immediate file transfer and sharing is a scalable, cost-effective solution for corporate network remote access. However, Internet-based remote access also adds significant risk. Sensitive data can be intercepted, modified, or replayed anywhere between remote workers and the corporate firewall. Broadcast access technologies like cable and wireless are especially vulnerable. Whenever a computer is connected to the Internet, it becomes a potential target for intruders. "Always on" broadband greatly increases this exposure by giving intruders a fixed target to attack repeatedly over time. Unless appropriate measures are. Advisors Institutional Press Releases Ninepoint Partners and Third Eye Capital announce Pieridae Energy’s successful refinancing and early repayment of term loan Toronto, ON June 15, 2023 – Ninepoint Partners LP (“Ninepoint”), one of Canada’s leading alternative investment managers, and Third Eye Capital Corporation (“TEC” or “Third Eye Capital”), whose affiliate, Third Eye Capital Management Inc., is sub-advisor of the Ninepoint-TEC Private Credit Fund and the Ninepoint-TEC Private Credit Fund II (“the Funds”), today announced that Pieridae Energy Limited (“Pieridae”) (TSX:PEA) has successfully refinanced a senior secured non-revolving term loan facility. In conjunction with the refinancing, Pieridae will enter a new loan with Prudential Private Capital, the private capital arm of PGIM, the US$1.3 trillion global investment management business of Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE: PRU), and Voya Investment Management which manages approximately US$323 billion as of March 31, 2023.Proceeds from the refinancing will be used to fully repay the current outstanding debt of $185 million to funds managed, sub-advised, or operated by affiliates of Third Eye Capital. The term loan was originally provided to Pieridae in October 2019 and has produced a double-digit internal rate of return for the Funds.Through this repayment, the Ninepoint-TEC Private Credit Fund and Ninepoint-TEC Private Credit Fund II will receive their respective pro-rata share of collectively $123 million. The repayment to both funds will be made upon closing of the refinancing transaction and will provide significant liquidity to service their cash requirements and will position the Ninepoint-TEC Private Credit Fund II to continue to invest and grow. Since inception in 2010, the Ninepoint-TEC Private Credit strategy has produced an annualized net return of 10.33%.“The transaction is a prime example of the pivotal role private credit plays in the Canadian economy by helping to support and grow successful businesses that typically don’t have access to traditional lenders, like the Canadian banks,” said Ramesh Kashyap, Managing Director and Head of Ninepoint’s Alternative Income Group. “By focusing on senior secured loans positioned at the top of the capital structure, the Ninepoint-TEC Private Credit strategy has been able to deliver healthy, risk-adjusted returns to our investors all the while helping companies like Pieridae strategically support and scale their businesses.”Third Eye Capital provided the senior secured term loan to Pieridae to help finance its purchase of Shell Canada Energy’s (“Shell”) midstream and upstream assets in the Southern Alberta Foothills in 2019. The transaction and term loan allowed Pieridae to retain more than 200 jobs for former Shell Canada employees. With the addition of these new employees, Pieridae has become a significant employer in the region with roughly 300 employees and has contributed millions of dollars to the local and Canadian economy.
