A couple of months, before I thought, “Wait a minute, it was a mob show, but they didn’t get what they were expecting.” So I added a murder and Brad Grey took it to HBO.Now, you weren’t even that heartbroken about Fox passing, or about the possibility of HBO passing, because to you the ultimate thing that could happen with this would have been to make it into a movie, right? I really felt this was the first time I was going to direct something that meant anything. And so I did direct it. They questioned me about that, and they finally said OK. And I really, really worked hard, and the pilot was good and the show was good. They, of course, being in the television business, decided they had to test it. And they tested it in four markets, and that took months. And while that was happening I thought, “Well, good, maybe they’ll turn it down. And I’ll go to them — they said they like it — and I’ll go get another $500,000 from them, shoot another 30 or 35 minutes, turn it into a movie and take it to Cannes. That was the ultimate. But that didn’t happen. And I was very disappointed when that didn’t happen. “Damn it, they picked up the show, and now I have to do this fucking thing!” But I got into it right away.Getting your show picked up by HBO at that time didn’t mean what it means today. At that time, HBO was movies and boxing, right? But let’s talk about how the principal cast came together for the HBO pilot, which I assume was a different cast than the one that would’ve been there for Fox … I mean, Tony would’ve been Frankie Avalon. He would have

Discovery takeover of WarnerMedia has brought with it huge shakeups to HBO Max and WB Studios DC properties. Here are all the still-confirmed HBO Max DC shows, as well as what the Discovery Warner Bros. merger means for their future. Green Lantern While Berlanti’s first take on Green Lantern in 2011 didn’t go too well, the Arrowverse mastermind has another opportunity to explore the Emerald Knight in an HBO Max DC show. Berlanti is executive producing a Green Lantern show that he promised to be “our biggest DC show ever made” upon announcement. Seth Grahame-Smith was brought on board as showrunner/executive producer for the series, which got a ten-episode order. Green Lantern will span several decades and feature Sinestro as one of the confirmed characters. Besides the iconic DC villain, Green Lantern introduces Alan Scott, Guy Garner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Kilowog. Additionally, an original character named Bree Jarta, part-human/part-alien, is set to join the principal cast. Thus far, Jeremy Irvine and Finn Wittrock are attached to the cast as Alan and Guy, respectively. The Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths established the HBO Max series as existing on Earth-12 in the newly formed multiverse. While HBO Max aimed for Green Lantern to debut in 2021, the pandemic meant it won't appear anytime before 2023. Strange Adventures Green Lantern isn’t the only DC series that Berlanti is working on, as the mega-producer is also developing DC’s first anthology show: Strange Adventures. The series is based on the 2003 book Friends of the Family: The Inside Story of the Mafia Cops Case, which was written by former NYPD Detective Tommy Dades, former Brooklyn prosecutor Mike Vecchione, and David Fisher. The book chronicles the true story of two decorated NYPD detectives with access to the department's most sensitive information, Stephen Caracappa and Louis Eppolito, who “sold their badges to the Mafia—and became murderers for the mob.”The most dangerous corrupt cops in American history, they left behind a pile of bodies when they retired in the early 1990s. For more than a decade it looked as if they were going to get away with it—until Detective Tommy Dades and Brooklyn Assistant DA Mike Vecchione turned a seemingly dead-end investigation into one of New York City's greatest law-and-order stories. This historic case that rocked the world of law enforcement and made national headlines when it was exposed that “Caracappa and Eppolito received thousands in monthly payoff money in exchange for confidential information on police informants and investigations, in addition to serving as mob assassins.”They became known as the “Mafia Cops” and were convicted in 2006 of eight contract murders, two of which they carried out themselves. They were sentenced to life in prison in 2009.Dades and Winter will be working on the Untitled Project together and they will be getting help from some of theRuth Wilson to Star in HBO 'Mob Queens' Drama - The

Okay, so, I wanted to watch something on HBO Max on my Fire TV the other day. I turned it on, found the show I wanted, and hit play. But instead of the show starting, I got this message that said, “Something went wrong.” Great, just what I needed. First thing I did was check to make sure both the HBO Max app and my Fire TV were up-to-date. I went into the Fire TV settings, and it turned out there was a system update available. So, I downloaded and installed it. Then, I went to the apps section and found HBO Max. I checked for updates there too. Guess what? There was one! Updated that as well. After all that updating, I tried playing the show again. Same error message. Ugh. Okay, time for some more digging.I figured it might be a connection problem. So I went to the network settings on my Fire TV and checked my Wi-Fi. Everything looked fine, but I decided to restart my router anyway. You know, just to be sure. While the router was rebooting, I also cleared the cache and data for the HBO Max app on my Fire TV. This is something that sometimes fixes weird app issues. Finally a breakthroughAfter all that, I restarted my Fire TV for good measure. Once it was back on, I opened HBO Max, crossed my fingers, and tried playing the show again. And guess what? It worked! Finally, I could watch my show. Took a little work, but I fixed it. Hope this helps anyone else who has the same problem with HBO.What's on HBO and HBO Max: New Shows and

Early spring is a hard time to air a prestige TV show, especially an HBO show that airs on Sunday nights. The Last of Us is learning this lesson the hard way, with Episode 5 airing February 12, Super Bowl Sunday, and Episode 9, the series finale, airing March 12, the same night as the Academy Awards. Thankfully, HBO announced that they’re taking preemptive action to counteract the first conflict: in an unprecedented move, The Last of Us Episode 5 will be available for streaming on HBO Max Friday, February 10 at 9:00 pm, two days before it’s scheduled to hit airwaves. It’s a smart move, and HBO should do it again. Episode 5 will still air on Sunday for fans who prefer stealth takedowns to touchdowns, but it will be old hat by that point for HBO Max subscribers. Variety noted that House of the Dragon, the last big Sunday night HBO drama, gathered two-thirds of its viewership from HBO Max. By making the episode available early, viewers don’t have to choose between watching the biggest live sporting event of the year or watching the latest installment of an ongoing hit series. The second part of Kathleen’s story will be told on Friday instead of Sunday.HBOWhile this move is a first for HBO, it’s not new for prestige survival dramas, or even prestige survival dramas starring Melanie Lynskey. Yellowjackets was routinely available to stream at midnight the day it aired on Showtime, which gave streamers a 21-hour headstart. In fact, all of Season 2 of Yellowjackets will be streaming on Fridays and airing on Sundays, giving viewers a headstart equal to what The Last of Us is trying with Episode 5.This move shouldn’t be a one-off experiment. Though the Super Bowl may be the show’s biggest competition, the Oscars will probably siphon off a fair bit of The Last of Us’ fanbase as well. Fans shouldn’t have to choose between watching the epic finale of Joel and Ellie’s story or seeing if there’s another Best Picture mix-up or physical altercation.Yellowjackets allows streamers to watch before the show hits TV.ShowtimeWhile this is a good development for The Last of Us fans, as there’s no downside to getting an episode earlier than planned, it also shows that HBO is willing to account for extenuating circumstances. But where is the line drawn? Is this a Super Bowl-only policy, or could we see the season finale drop before Hollywood’s biggest night? Maybe HBO has enough faith in The Last of Us’ ability to go up against the Oscars, but if the network wants the finale to enjoy the massive viewership the show has earned so far, they won’t force viewers to choose.
