• Integration • The transfer • Checking the algorithm • Editing • The macros • The Sound Editor • Multitrack editing • What else should I read? The basic workflow –the basic procedure for swift, intuitive editing. Melodyne 5 studio gives you direct access to individual notes within your recordings, allowing you to edit their pitch, position, duration and other musical parameters in an intuitive way. The quality of Melodyne’s correction of out-of-tune notes is legendary, but you can also introduce melodic variations, create vocal arrangements, quantize audio, improve timing and do many other things with it as well. Here is a quick and concise guide to getting Melodyne 5 studio up and running. Integration Open Melodyne as a plug-in on the desired audio track – preferably in the first insert slot, so that it is ahead of any other plug-ins (especially reverb, echo or distortion) in the signal chain. Melodyne is most effective when it is given a clean, dry signal. Melodyne 5 studio is suitable for the editing of lead vocals and monophonic instruments but also for polyphonic instruments such as the piano or the guitar. You can also edit drum and percussion tracks and even entire mixes with it – using functions such as transpose, quantize and time-stretch. The transfer When you first insert the plug-in, you will see an empty Melodyne window. All the passages that you wish to edit with Melodyne on the track in question must first be transferred to the Melodyne plug-in. In other words, you must play them through to Melodyne so it can record them, analyze their contents, and display the notes they contain. To do this, proceed as follows:1. Position your DAW’s playback cursor at the beginning of the passage you wish to transfer.2. Click the “Transfer” button in the Melodyne window.3. Start the playback in your DAW.4. When you reach the end of the passage, either click the Transfer button a second time in Melodyne or stop the playback in your DAW.Repeat the procedure until you have transferred to Melodyne all the passages you wish to edit; whether to transfer one long passage or a number of shorter ones is a matter of personal preference. As the track plays back, you will hear Melodyne during the passages transferred, and the rest of the time, the original track. Checking the algorithm Melodyne’s characteristic blobs represent the notes found in your recording, which you can select, drag and edit using the tools provided. Before you begin, however, there is one thing you must check:Based on its analysis of the audio material, Melodyne studio will have chosen to use either its Melodic, its Percussive or its Polyphonic algorithm. When the Percussive algorithm is used, all the notes are displayed in a single horizontal line; when the Melodic or Polyphonic algorithms are used, on the other hand, the vertical position of the notes represents their pitch. If your audio material is not displayed the way you want, you can select a different algorithm from the Algorithm menu.

Click “Browse” in the “Sample Editor” field. Select “Melodyne located in your Applications folder and click “Open.”To edit audio from Ableton Live in Melodyne:Click “Edit” in the bottom Clip View window (just to the left of the waveform in Ableton 11 underneath Transpose) in the Session or Arrangement view. Your Clip will now automatically open in Melodyne. When your edits in Melodyne are complete, simply select File -> Replace Audio. Any changes made will now be reflected in your Live session.Tip: To avoid overwriting the original clip, duplicate the clip, change the name and then "crop" or "consolidate" the clip. This will create a new sample clip. If you don't clip or consolidate first, even with the name changed, the original clip will be overwritten by what you do in Melodyne. (Also, Melodyne's percussive algorithm view is handy for editing dynamics/note-amplitudes even with melodic material as it lines up all the notes on one line so it is easier to compare them.)Instructions adapted from ... leton-Live Fizmarble Posts: 330 Joined: Tue Sep 26, 2006 4:25 pm Re: Tip: Easiest way to use Melodyne in Ableton -> Sample Editor Post by Fizmarble » Mon Jul 26, 2021 10:31 pm I saw this when you posted it originally and thought it was really clever. Thanks! I logged on today specifically to look for Melodyne tips and/or advice. The whole autotune phase of the early 00's really put me off of pitch correction in general. I got Melodyne bundled with an iZotope plugin that uses it (Nectar). I recently started playing with it and I like the capapilties so far - especially for editing out breaths. I find the interface kinda of clunky from a work flow perspective but the results have been worth the effort and the learning curve (so far). Last night

Sambaji Posts: 31 Joined: Fri Jun 01, 2018 3:40 pm Tip: Easiest way to use Melodyne in Ableton -> Sample Editor I am reposting my original post from the Feature Wishlist forum in this forum, since it is more of a tip than a request:Currently, I find the easiest way to use Melodyne with Ableton, without having to "transfer", etc, is to use Melodyne as Ableton's default "Sample Editor".To set Melodyne as the Sample Editor for Ableton Live in Mac OS: In the menu bar, go to Live -> Preferences and click on the “File/Folder” tab. I haven't gotten around to using it yet, but I plan to. Thanks for the tip! Which version of Melodyne are you using (thinking of taking the plunge)? Last night

Any clue as to how to make it permanent? Also, I can't seem to do much with the Melodyne. I can't get it out of clip mode, and all the note blobs are greyed out, so I can't do anything with them. All I want to do is apply a simple pitch correction and I can't seem to make that work. Is it connected to the activation issue?Hi,Try starting Mixcraft by right-clicking on its icon and selecting "Run As Administrator," then activate Melodyne. Be sure to watch the Melodyne tutorial videos on how to use it. There's a bit of a learning curve. GregThank you very much Greg, that fixed it! Don't worry about reinstalling Mixcraft without uninstalling first - it will leave all your current settings in place.
