THE HISTORY OF THE BOBBY CHAPMANThe Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational Tournament, established in 1995, is one of the top rated junior tournaments in the nation. It has played host to future champions on the PGA tour, as well as other tours across the globe. The idea of a top ranked junior tournament was not new to the Country Club of Spartanburg. During the 1970's, it was home to the Frank Edwards Junior Tournament which included Dillard Pruitt (SC Golf Hall of Fame) as a past champion. This was one of the first elite junior golf tournaments in the state during that era. In 1993, a group of CCS members, many of whom continue as Board Members of the Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational today, came together to create a new junior event that would reach national prominence. With the help of the South Carolina Golf Association and the South Carolina Junior Golf Association, the new tournament was held for the first time in 1995. The first BCJI champion was South Carolina’s own Lucas Glover, who later became a Walker Cup participant and U.S. Open Champion. Since its inception, The Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational has been known for its competitive excellence, as well as its southern hospitality to both players and parents.Robert H. (Bobby) Chapman, Jr. dedicated his life to his family, business and to the game of golf. Bobby was a local and national leader in the textile industry. He worked for his family's business, Inman Mills, for over thirty years, where he served as a Director and Vice-Chairman. His genuine, straightforward character earned him the respect of those who knew him.As a competitor, Bobby Chapman won the Country Club of Spartanburg Men's Golf Championship a record nine times. He won the Carolina's Golf Association Four Ball Championship twice - in 1951

Rickie Fowler and Sahith Theegala. Getty Images Hello friends and happy Friday from the Grant Thornton Invitational! It was the perfect day in Naples, Fla., and I got a front-row seat to some seriously good golf. Before we get into all of the action from Round 1, take a look at this video of Jessica Korda perfectly explaining why the Grant Thornton Invitational is so cool.I’m all-in on mixed team events. I’d love to see something with a match play format going forward.Rickie’s birthday surpriseThe fun started on the fist tee at Tiburon when Lexi Thompson presented Rickie Fowler with a cake for his 36th birthday. Props to the LPGA’s media team for picking up the cake, and word on the street is that somebody from their camp went the extra mile and put orange frosting on it themselves. Not only did Fowler get a birthday cake on the first tee, he received yet another cake and balloons when he walked off the 18th green after he and Thompson carded a nine-under 63. Fowler received birthday balloons and cake after his round Claire Rogers I guess if you’re as good at golf as Rickie Fowler is, you get two cakes! Must be nice. Also, fun fact: there were two birthdays in Fowler’s group today. Lexi Thompson’s brother Curtis turned 31 today and was on the bag for his sister at Tiburon. I hope he got at least one cake to celebrate the occasion!Old pals team upOne of my favorite duos this week is that of Allisen Corpuz and Sahith Theegala, who met each other in the parking lot of a junior golf tournament when they were six years old. Their parents have been pals ever since.Theegala joked that their team’s secret weapon this week is their dads. But not for the.
