2025-04-03And being able to listen through Tune In makes it a tad easier.edit:I really need to try Amazon Music for comparison but I hate talking to Alexa. But the Tidal app doesn't work very well, it doesn't properly show my search history, doesn't properly show my play history, and I sometimes struggle getting it to play properly. I have to switch from Tidal to another source and then switch back and it will start working again, but might take a couple times doing it. Bluetooth sounds terrible, I don't advise it unless you're just listening to a podcast. I'm hoping we get USB audio support s00n. I am not sold on it. If you have playlists on other music services, you can pull much of it into a Tidal playlist. I found that maybe 50% of what I have on my Spotify playlist was found on Tidal. I really try and hear the difference between tracks on Spotify versus Tidal, and honestly, to me, both sound great. I know the Tidal has a purported higher fidelity and does definitely take longer to cache songs, but to my 50+ year ears, both actually sound really good in the Rivian. I doubt I will keep Tidal after the trial as there is less selection than Spotify and I find Tidal does a much worse job generating playlists when you like a track. I also like that in the Rivian I can like a track on the Spotify app via the screen which I haven't found a way of doing via the Tidal interface. It is worth trying out Tidal, to see if your ears can hear a difference, especially if you can get the cheap trial. 2025-04-03Summary Tidal focuses on high audio quality with features like Live, Tidal Rising, and high-quality audio levels. Both Spotify and Tidal have clean interfaces but differ in content organization and video offerings. Tidal offers superior audio quality with FLAC and HiRes options, making it a must-try for HiRes music enthusiasts. There are many alternatives to mainstream music streaming services. One of these is Tidal, which I decided to try out. How does it fare against my go-to app, Spotify? Here is all you need to know. Comparing the Features Spotify and Tidal offer a wide range of features that see some overlap and some stark differences. Spotify, especially Premium, offers well-known features like Spotify Connect (one of the best features in my opinion), collaborative features like Blend and Jam, Spotify Wrapped, Smart Shuffle, a personalized AI DJ, and more. It's easy to customize the way you listen to music with Spotify, including EQ and crossfade controls, car play, and connecting to third-party navigation apps. There are even lots of third-party apps to further improve Spotify. Tidal doesn't skim on basic features, despite its focus on its high audio quality. Features like Live for real-time music listening, videos, and personalized mixes are a few features that got me hooked on Tidal. It also has the Tidal Rising platform which offers support for emerging new artists. Both apps offer offline listening with a subscription and offer different levels of sound quality. What About Sound Quality? Spotify offers a few different tiers of sound quality for the app on desktop, mobile, and tablet. Low: Equivalent to 24 kbps Normal: Equivalent to 96 kbps High: Equivalent to 160 kbps Very High: Equivalent to 320 kbps (only for Spotify Premium users) For the web player, you can stream in two levels of quality: free (AAC 128 kbps) and Premium (AAC 256 kpbs). You can change the audio quality, setting any level you want (or automatic, which changes the audio quality depending on your network connection). On the other hand, Tidal offers three tiers of sound quality. Low: Up to 320 kbps High: Up to 1,411 kbps (16-bit, 44.1 kHz) Max: Up to 9,216 kbps (24-bit, 192 kHz) Tidal's lowest quality setting matches that of Spotify's highest at 320kbps. Going one step further to the "High" setting unlocks 110 millions songs in CD quality, while "Max" uses HiRes FLAC files to go beyond even that, reaching a bitrate over 28 times higher than Spotify's best offering. It's worth nothing that many people struggle to hear the differences in sound quality at these bitrates. Even going from Tidal's "Low" to "High" option could be difficult to distinguish for some people, especially if they aren't using high end
2025-03-30I need Help.HelloI have got a problem with one of my tidal-dl-ng instances. Recently i have discovered that my tidal downloads are somehow corrupt, well the problem ist that they all are without tags. I can't even add the tags manually. When i am downloading the same file on a different machine (VM) all is fine. Also worth mentioning, that i can't expand the Artist/Album within the faulty tidal-dl-ng anymore.I am on both machines on 0.15.6 and Manjaro 24.1.1. Settings within tidal-dl-ng are basically the same.The one with the problem has received the latest manjaroOS updates, the other one not.I am mentioning this because i assume tidal-dl-ng is just partially can be the problem. Or maybe even not at all?Reinstall didn't change a thing.Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be? Or maybe has an idea of how to figure the problem out?What operating system are you seeing the problem on?LinuxYour settings{"skip_existing": "False", "lyrics_embed": false, "lyrics_file": false, "video_download": false, "download_delay": true, "download_base_path": "~/download", "quality_audio": "HI_RES_LOSSLESS", "quality_video": "480", "format_album": "Albums/{album_artist} - {album_title} - {album_year}/{album_track_num}. {artist_name} - {track_title}", "format_playlist": "Playlists/{playlist_name}/{artist_name} - {track_title}", "format_mix": "Mix/{mix_name}/{artist_name} - {track_title}", "format_track": "Tracks/{artist_name} - {track_title}{track_explicit}/{artist_name} - {track_title}{track_explicit}", "format_video": "Videos/{artist_name} - {track_title}{track_explicit}", "video_convert_mp4": false, "path_binary_ffmpeg": "/usr/bin/ffmpeg", "metadata_cover_dimension": "320", "extract_flac": true, "downgrade_on_hi_res": true}
2025-04-13While Jack was "summering" with Jay-Z in the Hamptons. Out of the blue one day, Jack joined a Block board meeting via Zoom from the Hamptons and said he wanted to buy Tidal for what was eventually calculated to be $306 million. A price Jack and Jay presumably negotiated together. Over wine. While gazing DIRECTLY into each other's eyes.Jack's proposal was somewhat unexpected for a number of reasons.First off, Block is a payments company that had nothing to do with streaming music up to that point.Perhaps more importantly, the acquisition committee would soon learn that Tidal was in horrible shape. The business was "failing financially" to the point where Jay had to personally loan Tidal $50 million to keep it afloat. Artists were fleeing and, worst of all, the artists that remained were under ZERO contractual obligation to remain on the platform.What is the value of a music streaming service that is "financially failing," has just borrowed borrowing $50m from its founder and might not exist tomorrow if all of its artists drop? One could argue ZERO.Yet Jack and Jay somehow decided it was worth $306 million.Unfortunately for Block's angry shareholders, a Delaware judge overseeing their case recently found in Block/Jack's favor. The judge ruled against the shareholders because, technically speaking it's not against any law to do a bad business deal. Even one that would later be described as "a $300 million bar tab to hang out with Jay-Z."
