They have you draw a tool on level 111 then from the lathe tool manager you "create new tool" "custom" then enter the geometric tool orientation, tool geometry, tool orientation in turret, corner radius, tool center, and compensation. Free Alternative to Microsoft Visio June 9, 2015December 14, 201816434 As most of you are aware, I work as a management consultant. My job involves defining processes and I use Microsoft Visio for creating swimlanes, architectural diagrams and flowcharts. It is the tool of my choice, and my organization is happy to offer it to me.Microsoft Visio is an expensive tool and not all companies can afford to keep copies of it lying around with its employees. It does not come with the Microsoft Office package and perhaps in the same category as Microsoft Project with its pricing. The last time I checked, it was around USD 650 for its professional version.I am working with a client who is not keen on Microsoft products and they insisted that I use a flowcharting tool that they could employ in the future as well for making amendments to my design.I have never used any other flowcharting tool other than Visio and I felt like a fish out of water. Without a choice but to look for alternatives, I started to look at the cloud options rather than open source. Here are the three tools that I evaluated and my thoughts on the matter.1. Google DrawingWhenever I start looking for cloud options, I start with Google. This giant has the habit of dipping its fingers into every possible pie on the internet and I was not surprised to find Google Drawing.I was amused to find that this tool is extremely basic at best. It is neither a flowcharting tool nor a drawing tool. It offers hardly anything by means of templates, shapes, and ease of use. I was quite frustrated after playing around with it for about 30 minutes and was flabbergasted to not find swimlanes. Perhaps I was not looking in the right places, but basic things such as this must be available where you expect to find it, right?Anyway, not a tool that I would use. I don’t believe that constant development is taking place on this tool.2. Lucid ChartMy next option was Lucid Chart.I felt home when I started using the tool. All my tools were available where Visio would usually store it. The tool was easy to use and for the slightest moment, felt that the tool was perhaps better than Visio. Read more about useful tools here.May be it is but not with its licensing model. Unlike installable software, this cloud option comes with the subscription. It offers a free account as well with limited shapes and limited memory. Perhaps for somebody in high school, it might suffice, but not for professionals.I cannot ask my client to subscribe to modify my designs at a later time. So, my search. i think the config tool. i have both the amcrest config tool and the dahua config tool. Anchor point with the direct selection tool and you can move it around or select the control handles. I finished template for you and here's a speedy demonstration. And please don't give up on the pen tool at first. I know you can do it. Since we are working with Adobe Illustrator CC, I would like to show you a new tool that was added to the last update. It is called the curvature tool. It is an exciting new tool, and if you are struggling with the pen tool, maybe you would like to use the curvature tool, too. So it works like this. I selected here and then I click once. All I see is a straight line, or so it appears. Then I click over there again and I can see a red curve. Then I click here again and look. I just created a semi-circle. All without click, hold, and drag. Now I click down here and then over there and then the circle is done. I can alter the anchor points simply by double-clicking on them. And then the curve is taken away just like this. But if I double-click again, boom, a curve is added again. Now is that neat, or what? If I want a straight line I just double-click, then double-click over here and then I can continue. And if I don't like the straight line, I can double-click on the anchor point with the curvature tool and I will get a curve. No need to switch to the direct selection tool. But, of course, the path can still be altered with it. I'm really excited about this and although I'm a defender of the ultimate pen tool, but for starting out, the curvature tool could be a big contender. Just try it out and you will be the judge. And this is the end of this lesson. The pen tool is still one of the strongest and hardest tools to master, but once you know how to use it, you will use it over and over again. Recommended Posts Share Anyone have any experience with custom tools in MasterCam lathe 2018? I'm trying to create a back-turning tool. I drew a .125 wide back-turning tool (Sandvik Corocut xs #MABR 3 020 125) but I'm having issues with the toolpaths. I can cheat and make it work by adding a couple of lines and creating a groove on my part but I would like to get it to work like a standard turning tool. Thanks for your help! I have done back turning back to V9 with little issue. You should be able to bring in the solid of the tool in 2020 and be off to the races. What Version are you using? 2025-04-07Level 111 then from the lathe tool manager you "create new tool" "custom" then enter the geometric tool orientation, tool geometry, tool orientation in turret, corner radius, tool center, and compensation. Not the best way to do it in my humble opinion. Take an existing tool and then in the lathe tool manager right click and save to level use that to help you road map what your after. Too many ways to make mistakes staring from scratch. By using an existing tool you have a much better chance to get it correct. Then use that new level tool to make the custom tool and I think you will be golden.
 Author Share That does sound much easier. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
