PingID provides SSH authentication services to protect local and remote sign on to Linux and Unix systems, including configuration options for Pluggable Authentication Module (PAM) and ForceCommand.Before attempting to configure this integration, ensure that you have sufficient expertise in your Linux distro and experience troubleshooting PAM and ForceCommand configurations.The PingID module simply does MFA when told by the ForceCommand or PAM configuration. If PingID is not being invoked as expected, you most likely have a misconfiguration in your Linux configuration files. Ping Identity Support’s ability to assist with questions related to Linux configuration is limited, and you should be prepared to consult Linux forums or other Linux experts for assistance.Secure Shell (SSH)SSH is an encrypted network protocol, which provides a remote or local secure channel over an unsecured network in a client-server architecture, connecting an SSH client application with an SSH server.Pluggable authentication module (PAM)PAM is a mechanism to integrate low-level authentication schemes into a high-level API. Applications that rely on authentication can be developed independently of the underlying authentication scheme.ForceCommandForceCommand safely executes remote commands through SSH. I understand the instructions to unpair the old phone but that's unhelpful if you've already traded in your old phone and transferred over your data (which is the norm for most people). Even doing a factory reset, uninstalling the app, reinstalling, etc. doesn't help. I'm completely locked out of important work apps on a weekend without tech support. Ever since the recent update, the swipe prompt fails to load, authentication times out and I'm I'm locked out of email. This is the worst app in existence. It's painfully unfriendly to install and pair and once you finally get it, it fails to prompt for a swipe so I can't connect regardless. I'm forced to use this to access work email, but since it refuses to work, I have no access at all. Relatively easy setup, even for the old folks, and they quickly got used to having to hit a button on their phone when logging into systems.
