Contact: Useful utility: Clean Slate (replaces DeskShade) Just wanted to pass this little gem along: ... 6499?mt=12" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It's only a $1.99. This hides the clutter on your desktop if you have a bunch of icons on it like I do. I find it clears my mind to be able to hide all that business when I launch DP. I was using DeskShade but it hadn't been updated since 2007 or so and it was buggy with my 2nd monitor.Clean Slate works really well. I'm using it now and trashed DeskShade. You can use a hot key to hide all the desktop icons just like DeskShade and better still it's scriptable. This is very cool because I had used Automator to make a workflow or whatever that with one hotkey combo, Ctrl+Opt+Cmd+D, I automatically quit all open apps, launch Liquid Mix, pause, launch DP. I had to always manually hide the desktop with DeskShade. Now with Clean Slate that's part of the process. I at anytime I can hit that key combo, my desktop becomes clean and blank, and Liquid Mix loads and then DP loads. But it annoys me. Heck... even the bloody Windows "Start" menu seems more practical than the dock. Rant over. I remember the good old days of OSX 8 where I had that add on app that allowed the menu bar dropdown and menus drilling down - Butler doesn't seem as good as that. The dock is annoying when you are working. I will try this Desk Shade - I get annoyed with Reason getting in the way at times when I switch between DP windows manually. Rant away - its all about good ideas and "progess" isn't always what it seems - the dock a case in point. Diego, CA - U.S.A. Contact: Re: For DP and messy Desktops: DeskShade 2.1 Post by James Steele » Sat Nov 20, 2010 9:39 pm Yeah.... although if you have an app that's full screen and you have something like the UAD meter behind the app, you won't see it, right? I no longer use the PoCo card, but when I was on my G5 I had the UAD and PoCo meters positioned so they were visible while in DP. That's one good thing about DeskShade.... it only hides the desktop. Still I guess with the right implementation it could be cool.Right now my pet peeve is the dock!! I have it set for automatic hiding and I'm opening up my main TOV and SE window as close as I can to the bottom of the screen. They don't shift upward anymore when you recall a Window Set. Still bugs the hell out of me if I'm not careful I move the mouse down to the scroll bar or something and the bloody dock pops up! I'd kill for it to be temporarily defeated by a hot-key or something. If I want to switch apps I can command+tab. Apparently Onyx used to let you assign the dock to the "top" of the screen is what I read online in a forum where other users were grousing about the dock. This effectively killed it. I downloaded the latest Onyx with much anticipation hoping I could get rid of the damned dock in this method while I'm working in DP, and they had removed that option from the dock positioning. I have a love/hate relationship with the doc. Frankly, since I have a 30" screen... I think an app launcher that's just a menu in the menu bar with a long list would be better. The dock strikes me as just another way the consumer iPod crowd dictates what a Mac will look like. Yes... I know it's a NeXT remnant, but it annoys me. Heck... even the bloody Windows "Start" menu seems more practical than the dock. Rant over. What a great idea; it just makes them all disappear! James, do they fade gradually, or is it instantaneous? I'd probably sit there clicking it over and over. Contact: For DP and messy Desktops: DeskShade 2.1 I want to recommend this utility to those of you like me who end up with a lot of clutter on their Mac desktop. When I work in DP and move window around and whatever, those various icons behind the app bug me and the clutter sort of weighs on me.I used to use this app called Isolator which would hide EVERYTHING but the foreground app. Only problem is that it also hides the UAD Meter App as well. So I wanted something that would only hide the desktop. I found DeskShade 2.1 and I really like it.There's a download link on this page: onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It will give you menu bar icon and you can activate or deactivate it there, plus you can choose which monitors to hide the desktop on if you have a multiple monitor setup like many of us do here. The flip side is that it doesn't seem to be crippled in anyway, and I have yet to pay the Shareware fee because when I choose the menu item to purchase it, it takes me to a page that doesn't show any way to pay for DeskShade, but rather a different app from the developer. I've also emailed the developer directly and asked HOW I can PLEASE pay him for this, but haven't heard back YET. I will let you know if I do.Highly recommend though!
