Only users with topic management privileges can see it. last edited by leocg Hello, I received a notice in the Opera Desktop browser (which I love) telling me about Opera GX and asking if I wanted to download it. I thought why not, I would check out later before installing. When I clicked "Download Opera GX", a "save as" window opened and instead of clicking "save", I decided to cancel until I figured out if I wanted it. Now, every time I open the Opera Desktop browser, a Save As window automatically opens with "OperaGXsetup.exe" asking me to click to "save" the file. Even thought I cancel (and once I even downloaded the .exe) it keeps happening. Does anyone know how to stop it from trying to download. In Opera I cleared cookies, cache and hosted app data with no luck. Thanks Much! leocg Moderator Volunteer @qqm last edited by @qqm Did you try cleaning up the downloads list? A Former User last edited by yet to do that qqm last edited by This post is deleted! qqm @leocg last edited by This post is deleted! qqm @leocg last edited by @leocg Thanks for the suggestion I hadn't tried clearing downloads and just did. grrr - no difference. Opera GX seems to have planted a little seed somewhere that triggers Opera Desktop to keep downloading. I really don't want to resort to installing GX to see if that will stop the downloads because then I have to deal with the uninstall - program, registry settings and any modifications GX may make to the Desktop version that is configured perfectly. Hope there's another idea. Another big reason I don't want to reset Opera or risk messing with my Opera Desktop setup is I have a password manager that is very finicky to set up with Opera to recognize the master encrypted password file, and it's finally also working perfectly. Any other ideas will be very welcome. Is there a way to reach out to the Opera GX development team about this? Thanks. leocg Moderator Volunteer @qqm last edited by @qqm Are you closing all tabs before closing Opera? qqm @leocg last edited by @leocg Closing all tabs worked! (Opera is set to open with last session) Saved open tabs in speed dial folder, closed them and restarted Opera. No more GX download. I'll remember this tip

Read more In the last few days, I have seen several reports of YouTube videos or Shorts displaying a black screen on Opera GX. In most cases, the audio runs fine, but for a few, there’s no sound as well on YouTube. Additionally, some see a white glow on YouTube in Opera GX!The underlying causes for YouTube not working on Opera GX include issues with hardware acceleration, conflicting extensions, corrupt browsing data, problems with the installed GPU driver, and misconfigured settings. To start with, I recommend you update Opera GX to the latest version, use another YouTube account, or switch the browser profile. If YouTube shows a black screen when opting for Full-Screen mode in Opera GX, first press T to enable Theatre mode and then F for the Full-Screen mode. The workaround seemingly worked for many. How do I fix Opera GX’s black screen while running YouTube?1. Disable hardware accelerationLaunch the browser, click on the Opera menu near the top left, and select Settings.Scroll down, click on Advanced to view more settings, and then turn off the toggle for Use graphics acceleration when available. For video-playing issues, whether with YouTube or any streaming platform, your primary approach should be to disable hardware acceleration in Opera GX. This also works when Opera GX is not streaming Discord.2. Disable conflicting extensionsOpen the browser, click the Opera menu, select Extensions from the list of options, and then again choose Extensions.Click the Disable button under the first extension here. Relaunch the browser and verify whether YouTube videos show a black screen on Opera GX. If the problem is fixed, again open Extensions, click the Remove button under the one you just disabled, and confirm the change. In case the problem persists, disable other extensions individually and check for improvements.3. Clear the browsing dataLaunch Opera, and press Ctrl + Shift + Del to open the Clear browsing data window.Choose All time from the Time

Not 1 of which is available on Linux even though their base opera browser is, and despite showing the clear capabilities of making such amazing things a reality they seem intent on making nothing more than unmaintained glorified proof of concept projects and a so-so Chrome spinoff, there was even a time they weren't based on Chrome and that time has passed...Eh, if Linux support of all things isn't in the picture I guess this might be a lost cause. 2025-03-25Last edited by (as of Nov, 9) I thought it wasn't working for Youtube anymore until I tried 3 things which made it work again.Number 1 uninstall the addon and re-install it to see if it updates itself since I couldn't find a setting to update it manually, if it crashes the browser repeatingly as a result, then try removing it with developer mode on.number 2, clear all the cache and cookies on the browser, according to a thread on reddit, this is incase the addon missed something that slip through the cracks so to speak when the addon was on, they were vague on how that works, but I'm not complaining because it's better to have something to try, then nothing at all.number 3, make sure opera gx's default ad blocker isn't on along with ublock origin simultaneously, Youtube is too familiar with that the default gx ad blocker and gives you a pop up blocking the video player every time it's activated.if none of these works, then that's a clear sign to worry.came here to see if other people were getting the same issue of Youtube blocking you from watching video, even reading comments saying Ublock "bypassed" it, but I found a solution Via a video I watched, You got to go to your filter list, click on "purge all cache" and then hit "update now" afterwards, this seemed to fix the issue.(yeah I'm quoting my past comments, did not want to write a new paragraph without remembering
