First Footage From 'Alien: Earth' Reveals the Slimy Xenomorphs of FX's Highly Anticipated New Series TV News Sign in to your MovieWeb account FX It's a good time to be a fan of the Alien franchise. After last year's incredibly successful Alien: Romulus, written and directed by Fede Álvarez, a sequel was greenlit with the director returning to continue the story of Rain Carradine (Cailee Spaeny). Besides a Romulus sequel to look forward to, the Xenomorphs are also set to bring all their slimy terror onto small screens with Alien: Earth, the first-ever Alien television series being developed for FX on Hulu. Many of the series' details have been kept under wraps, with only a couple of short and ambiguous teasers released to keep the hype going. We got our first look at some actual footage from the series during the Academy Awards, and it's been uploaded online for all to see. The new snippets of Alien: Earth aren't an individual trailer for the series but instead a showcase of all the FX on Hulu offerings to look forward to in 2025. Along with showcasing the first season of the Emmy-winning series Shōgun, new looks were provided for Season 4 of The Bear and, of course, Alien: Earth. This new look at the series showcases a group of characters approaching what is undoubtedly the wreckage of the ship seen in a previous teaser, as well as other iconography of the franchise, such as a particularly slimy Ovomorph (a.k.a. the alien egg) and a Xenomorph. Related Alien: Earth looks to stay in the spirit of the rest of the series, though so much about the premise makes it stand out from other entries in the anthology. For starters, this series will be the first Alien story set on Earth, with the threat of Xenomorphs coming to humanity instead of the other way around. There will also likely be plenty of connections to the greater franchise, especially since it takes place two years before the first Alien film. 'Alien: Earth' Is Noah Hawley's Next Big Series Aside from the excitement of a much more recognizable backdrop for Alien: Earth, the creative team has a proven track record of creating phenomenal and groundbreaking television that should also get Alien fans hyped. Noah Hawley created Alien: Earth and wrote all the episodes, and he has also been confirmed as the director of multiple episodes of the upcoming series. For those unfamiliar with the creator's previous work, Hawley is best known for two other FX series: Legion, based on the Marvel comics about Professor X's son, played in the FX series by Dan Stevens; and the crime anthology series Fargo, very loosely based on the Coen brothers' film of the same name. The latter has been nominated for 113 awards and won 32 across its five seasons. Alien: Earth is in more than capable hands. Our new look at Noah Hawley's TV series "Alien: Earth" is here, and while the teaser trailer is pretty dang brief (about 30 seconds long, with nearly half that much time devoted to the FX and Hulu logos at the end), it still promises plenty of sci-fi squelchiness and scares in line with the original 1979 Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi horror film classic and subsequent franchise follow-ups.The show will function as a prequel of sorts, one that its official synopsis describes as revolving around "a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers" who make a dangerous discovery when an other-worldly vessel crashes on Earth. "As members of the crash recovery crew search for survivors among the wreckage, they encounter mysterious predatory life forms more terrifying than they could have ever imagined," the synopsis continues. The upcoming series stars Sydney Chandler ("Don't Worry Darling"), Alex Lawther ("The End of the F***ing World"), Essie Davis ("Game of Thrones"), and "Justified" star Timothy Olyphant, who we hope will somehow be playing a space cowboy. Alien: Earth will terrorize viewers in 2025 FX Hawley, the creative mastermind behind such great FX shows as "Legion" and "Fargo," is a thrilling addition to the "Alien" directorial stable, though this new look doesn't exactly offer us many clues about what to expect from "Alien: Earth." The show is likely still in post-production after wrapping filming in July 2024 (per a chat Hawley had with Variety), so this early preview is less about the series' character or plot and more about teasing its connection to the larger franchise and the Xenomorphs' small-screen debut. (A short-form "Alien" series, it should be noted, was released on IGN back in 2019.)"In 2120," an ominous voiceover proclaims in the promo, "Mother Earth is expecting." In the context of the "Alien" franchise, this line is pretty dang ominous, especially since the movies have always had a pretty gruesome relationship with pregnancy. The original Chestburster scene was presented almost like an emergency childbirth, and earlier this year, "Alien: Romulus" featured a gnarly human-Xenomorph hybrid birth sequence. Whatever Mother Earth is expecting, it can't be good. The shot of the Earth is soon revealed to be reflecting off the glistening head of a Xenomorph, which opens its maw with a roar.The rest of the promo offers super-quick glimpses of imagery from the series, accompanied by some nasty sound effects that are part technological, part reptilian, part gooey and organic. There's a shot of some mucus-like goo, a shot of the eye of a white animal (maybe a horse or sheep?), and an extremely brief image of a human face screaming. Could we be dealing with some good, old fashioned alien livestock mutilation here? Only time will tell. FX's "Alien: Earth" debuts on Hulu in the summer of 2025.

Today, FX has announced a truly out-of-this-world experience that will allow event-goers to step into the universe of the upcoming series, Alien: Earth. A newly released teaser gives prospective attendees a look at what to expect when the immersive experience crashes into Austin on March 7 and 8. In addition to some fun photo ops and exclusive merch, the set-up will give fans a chance to walk around a crash site where they’ll discover previously unreleased details about the highly anticipated production. The teaser shows the doomed spacecraft as it plummets towards the Earth’s surface, on a collision course with Austin, Texas. As the ship goes up in flames, a message warns readers that the previously contained cargo has been let loose from its holding — pointing to a grim reality for any humans unlucky enough to cross its path. Although the teaser doesn’t share any close-up details about what to expect from the experience itself, we’d say that the ship will be nearly unrecognizable by the time it makes an impact in Austin. What we do know is that upon arrival, attendees will be scanned to ensure that no parasites have latched on for a ride before being handed official credentials and information about their directive. Noah Hawley‘s long awaited Alien series will finally begin shooting this year. “Noah is currently in production on the fifth season of Fargo but he’s in active preproduction on Alien, he’s written scripts,” said FX Boss John Landgraf providing an update at TCA on the long-in-the-works series. “I think he’s meeting with his production designer in Austin this weekend, gearing up for production this year after he completes the fifth season of Fargo.” At last year’s virtual TCA winter tour, Landgraf specified that Hawley’s Alien, “takes place before Ripley. It’s the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth.” “It takes place on our planet. Right near the end of this century we’re in — so 70-odd years from now,” added Landgraf then. Watch on Deadline “Ripley won’t be a part of it or any of the other characters of Alien other than the alien itself,” the exec said. Hawley’s Alien series was first announced during the pandemic at the Disney Investor Day in December 2020.
